2. Taxanes may be useful in slowing Alzheimer disease:

Microtubular stabilizing drugs used in cancer may have a role in helping mobilize a substance called Tau protein in Alzheimer's neurons.  Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have used a transgenic mouse to study the effects of these chemicals on accumulation of this potentially neurotoxic substance.  The effects of Taxanes are thought to restore neuronal transport and therefore, potentially restoring function to the neurons.  This is only an animal investigative study, not at the clinical level yet.
